When Moving On Doesn't Sound Like Moving On But It Is

Thursday, October 13, 2016

You turn on the radio and there’s a rock song playing. You find yourself moving to the beat of the drums and getting all charged up playing air guitar to the solo like some retard. Smiling, you remember that this song was so much better live. Now where did you hear it live last…..

Oh.

Now you remember. You remember the sweet smell of beer and the pulsating lights. You remember the feel of condensation of the humid air on your skin. You remember how you looked at him and secretly hoped that he noticed you though you claim to not to want his attention.

It was in that bar and he was on stage playing the guitar with his band.

And if you told anyone about it, they'll say that it’s because you’re not truly over him. Listen to them long enough and you’ll eventually start questioning if you're really over him or you’re just in denial.

Trust me when I say it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy because all that you'll do is remind yourself everything that you love about him and eventually be unable to let go. I repeat, UNABLE to let go, not refuse to let go. There is a difference. I've been there, done that, you definitely don’t want to go back there. (For those nodding your heads, here's a fist bump.)

But let me tell you this, not everything has to be about him. He may have been the reason how you got to know that song, that genre, or even that bar.  But please, please remember that it is you who's enjoying the music, moving to the beat and forgetting about being judged, that’s all YOU. YOU get to claim that music, that passion and all as yours. Nobody can take that away from you... unless you let them.

Being bound by that “great” relationship together, have you forgotten that there is a 'you'? It may no longer be something that 'we' did together but you CAN go back to exclaiming like before, “OMG I LOVE THIS THIS, THIS AND, THIS!!!”

Moving on doesn’t mean erasing him from your life.

Moving on is to accept the happiness you created and shared together.

Moving on is to remember that more than ever, you’re in charge of creating your own happiness. Don’t let anyone take away that right.

Moving on means being able to enjoy your life independently.

Moving on is to not to be cold, to be heartless but instead, it is a sign of your emotional growth, to accept, to be happy for others, to be able to let go, to move on, to fight for yourself, to love yourself enough to want more, to not settle.

I fall in love with me,
I'll find someone
who will too."
