#KERYNEATS @ Cha Thai
Friday, January 20, 2017
There are plenty of Thai food places opening up in Singapore, especially with everyone constantly flocking to Bangkok every other month. I’m not sure about you but when I think about traditional Thai food places, I imagine them to be situated in a setting heavily decorated with the Thai culture.
So when I entered ChaThai which is situated in a very modern setting with a vintage entrance. I wondered if I would be eating some sort of fusion Thai food??
(Okay yes, I’m sorry I don’t really do much research before. But it’s a new place, try first then see how right? :D)
Well looks can be deceiving and in this case, it’s a blessing! Don't get me wrong, I love my fusion food but I love traditional flavors even more.
While waiting for our food to arrive, we actually had a chance to speak with the founder/owner. She was telling us that while she tried to suit the taste buds of Singaporeans, she also made sure to keep the authenticity of the original Thai flavors.
Phad Thai ($22)
|
Take for example this Phad Thai, we all expect that chao kway teow texture and flavor with all that chaotah goodness. But according to the owner, in her hometown where – I kid you not – Phad Thai actually originated, that’s not how it’s supposed to be! Instead, it’s supposed to be a little tangy, a little sweet and definitely free of any chaotah flavors.
Being Singaporeans, we need to be a little kiasu and order every drink to try right? The top favourites were the Thai Milk Tea (duh!) and the Matcha Milk Tea, so just trust me and order those two. Unless you're a fan of Lemon Grass, then get the lemon grass! :P
Okay enough rambling, I’m going to post up the food we ordered and then we’ll head straight to my overall conclusion on Cha Thai!
Papaya Salad ($16) |
Crispy Prawn Cakes ($15) |
Grilled Fish Cakes ($15) |
Tom Yum Soup ($28) |
Charcoal Cha Thai Toast ($8) with Thai Milk Tea Cream and Pandan Cream (I LOVE THE PANDAN ONE) |
#KERYNATE { 4/5 STARS }
I have 3 favourites!
The first would be the Phad Thai, I really love the flavours especially after finding out this is how an authentic Phad Thai should taste like.
The second would be the Tom Yum Soup, it really packs a punch! At first, you’d be laughing at how it isn’t that spicy at al……until it hits you. BAM. I can’t really take spicy food but for some reason I just can’t stop. (Of course, my Thai Milk Tea was soon gone as well.) Not to mention that, the seafood weren't overcooked at all and really quite fresh hmm
The third would be the Charcoal Cha Thai Toast, they were really crispy and the creams went really well with it! CHOOSE THE PANDAN CREAM
Overall, yes it is a little on the pricey side. But the owner told us that every ingredient was freshly prepared and freshly made, even down to the sauces and you can definitely tell the quality when you eat it.
Would I come back again? Not often because of the pricing, but definitely if I want to try out some new quality Thai dishes!
Well don't just hear me ramble on. Try it yourself and try the other dishes too, then let me know your thoughts! Good things must share right
